My name is Ron Longo, and my passion and hobby is performing and songwriting. I use
old school, classical recording techniques (yes...I am lost in the past).
I've been involved in music in some form or other for almost my entire life. My basic
philosophy in just about everything is "you get what you give". A good portion of the
music I am involved in creating and performing is to inspire and rejuvenate people.
If somehow my music can elicit positive emotion, inspiration, and a higher spiritual
calling, then I have succeeded in my journey.
I strive to capture some of the realism and raw grit of life in some of my songs, and
sometimes this turns out real, but often times it turns out horribly bad. The songs
may not appeal to some people, and at other times it just doesn't achieve what I was
originally intending to achieve (i.e., the song is not very good). A lot of times I
am just searching for a great song, but as most people know those are really hard to
come by,
From a song perspective, I strive to create genuine and honest songs with heartfelt,
soulful lyrics (easier said than done).
I am very proud of "If I", "That Day", and "Steady Sun" (the latter two which were
co-written with Alex Longo). And I feel pretty good about some of my more whimsical
and pointless songs like "Miles Behind" (about being completely confused by the
opposite sex), "Hush Your Mouth", and "Wedding Day".
However, I've got some pretty lame songs as well, like "Great Divide" and a few
others that I won't ever share with the general public. As an aside, even though
"Great Divide" is a terrible song with horrible cliches and an over-the-top vocal
performance, for some reason I still like the song. So I guess it goes to show that
sometimes massive imperfection and mediocrity is OK...it's real life.
Like I said above, I love old school recording...a wide-open live drum sounds with a
lot of room mic's, and genuine sounds coming from real guitars and singers. The more
live the sound, the better. This is also easier said than done, especially when I
have full access to state of the art digital recording equipment and unlimited
outboard gear...like being a kid in a candy store. But I strive to be more real with
every recording I make.
Best,
Ron
